De Montfort Hall 2016 Pantomime Breaks Box Office Record

De Montfort Hall’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk proved to be a giant of a success over the Christmas period with ticket sales up by around 10% year on year.

The show starring X Factor winner, and Leicester’s own megastar, Sam Bailey played to around 28,000 people, making it both the biggest pantomime at the venue since it was reintroduced in 2013 and the second best performing Christmas show of the last decade.

Sam Bailey said “I absolutely loved panto this year at De Montfort Hall. It was amazing to perform to my home crowd every day and I had so much fun working with the rest of the cast and theatre staff. I’m so pleased that 2016 was the most successful panto so far for the hall, it’s incredible to be part of such a box office success.”

After a twenty year gap, panto returned to De Montfort Hall in 2013 and has gone from strength to strength since, now being a central part of the festive celebrations for many Leicester families.

Antony Flint, De Montfort Hall’s General Manager said “We’re really pleased with the continuing success. I’m a big fan of panto and it’s great to see so many large family groups, often spanning a number of generations, coming in to see the show together.”

Despite Jack and the Beanstalk only closing a few weeks ago, De Montfort Hall’s 2017 panto Beauty and the Beast is already on sale and promises to be a ‘beauty’ of a show when it opens on Saturday 16 December, with more details on casting expected in the coming weeks.
